what? it's Sarturday?!
Okay. Get right to it: you know it... I'm naive. At one point during the exam period, I found myself studying with a handful of boys. So 1. I was gaining knowledge in what I was studying for exams, 2. I learnt a lot about boys, and 3. I gained more appreciation for the friends I have made in Waterloo.
Firstly and quickly, as I was writing my last official exam...it hit me. This was possibly my last opportunity to be able to write a lame exam about striving for a sustainable campus. Recycle, don't shoot beavers, eat lots of rare vegetables, wear wool socks, bike everywhere, and stay optimistic about saving the planet... all these and you will make the perfect ES student. Okay, so maybe I fit all of these, but regardless... I am praying that I won't have to be in ES anymore and that Eng. will be a huge open door in September!
Secondly: boys. This section goes out to you Nicole... for those TWO 'top-bunk/ice-tea/popcorn' talks that we had this summer... here are my contributions! I was going to have a whole blog post on 'Kathleen's take on Boys 101'... but I thought I'd just share a bit of what I've learnt. Feel free to rebuttle any of these 'ideas'. So... appently there is a bell shaped curve on a graph with the x-axis labelled 'length of time you've known the person' and the y-axis is labelled 'ease of asking person out'. APPARENTLY! With this... that means there is a 'peak moment' where it is the easiest to ask someone out... what the heck?! I also learnt that for guys... status is huge, the need to have a girl be attracted to them or like them is also huge. I don't mean this to seem 'boy-belittling' because we sure have our own weaknesses... it's just something I never really knew or picked up on. And that is my extent to 'boy talk'... call it weak or naive if you want.
Speaking of naivety... don't make fun of those of us who are! I'm hoping that one day...being naive will be a positive thing!
OKAY... so THIRDLY! (no smooth transition...always just change the topic when you're uncomfortable or in a situation where you don't know much about a particular topic!)
I got home late Thursday night. Spent most of the day Friday in town partly pouting because my mom and sister dragged me out shopping....pffff...HATE SHOPPING, but at the same time I ended up running into MANY people I knew! No surprise of course. I also got to see some old teachers. Going back to my highschool is so weird. Teachers never change.. just the students who fill the halls. I went out Friday night (and I was 'good' ie. I didn't spend a dime...uhhh yeah!). The 3 girls that I went with ... aaak, hadn't seen them in atleast a year still knew me well enough to know that I'd be WAY TOO BUSY seeing everyone to dance. In a nutshell, ended up going to 3 different bars (all in the 2 small towns beside new liskeard)....and yes that sounds ridiculous. SIDE NOTE: small town, everyone is out at these bars, which makes for a very easy way to see all the people you want to see. Surprisingly I was actually excited to see all these people again. I got a lot of 'Kathleen, where have you been... it's been like 3 years'. That is when I realized how removed I've been. The whole scene just made me laugh. Picture this: everyone you know aged 19-30 at one tavern/sketch old hotel. At one point during the night, I thought of what it would be like if some of my friends from Waterloo were with me... I'm not sure if they would be shocked or just think the whole thing is really hilarious: knowing 80% of the people there, everyone coming up to you freaking out because they haven't seen you yet, many hugs left right and center, trying to dodge the 3 local creepy old guys, and whether the people are younger or 10 years older, you're buddy buddy regardless. I would love to bring someone to my hometown!
I appreciate the bigger city for many reasons, but coming back home does make me smile for its oddities (if that's a word!).
Well folks, only a few more sleeps until Winter Conference....eeeeeee!!! Another post about my 'learnings/realizations'.... they come to me slowly.... but they're coming!

i felt old. :( haha..
love you!! see you on the 2nd. =D
Don't kid yourself, being naive has always been the coolest of the cool! I've learned this from too many conversations with guys about random stuff like urinals...yup, not much glamour there. I wish I was cool like you Kath!
And yes, do a Boys 101 post. You would be my hero.
