February Recap

Week 1

Thailand Trip 1. Spent 5 days in Phuket (beach, boats, coral, painful massages, feet eating fish, pineapples, disturbing thai prostitutes, and burnt skin) and 3 days in Bangkok (hanging out with Natalie, visiting parks, riding boats, more pineapples, monks, alters, and crazy malls)

Coral Island (off coast of Phuket)

Week 2

KT gets awkwardly asked out for Valentine's day. I wanted to write a post about 'How you can score a date with KT: the do's and dont's'. Here's a few pointers for all you guys out there trying to win over the famous Chinese-Malaysian Latino-wannabe Canadian who can never stay in one country longer than 4 months!

DONTs
1. Don't ask "any plans for Valentine's Day? Maybe we can hang out?"
2. Don't be awkward.
3. Don't be Asian - unless you can dance, then you might have a chance.
4. Don't creep/stalk her and follow her around.
5. Don't awkwardly ask her for coffee and tell her you like her on the first coffee "date".

DOs
1. Take her to a nice classy/trendy wine place.
2. Remain calm/chill and pay for any meal/wine shared together.
3. Dress nicely.
4. Feed her grapes.
5. Be musical and sing her the latest and cutest Glee song (dancing is always a bonus).

Also in Week 2 - Singapore's Annual Zoo Run. Which you can read about here.

Week 3

Worked like mad trying to get as much school done before IL arrived. Toured Singapore with IL. Went tandem biking thru Pulau Ubin (island north of SG) - chased by dogs, took the tandem (with makeshift brakes) off-roading. Highlight for sure! Visited Marina Barrage which was a neat engineering feat.

Marina Barrage (excess fresh water spilling into ocean)

Visited a casino for the first time at Sentosa, watched an old man bust a move at Clarke Quay, walked around the entire Marina Bay Sands area searching for the Barrage, miraculously survived eating a meal in Little India, enjoyed durian again (this time with gloves!), ran the Goodbye Gutom charity run. Oh, and all this explored and done with IL.

Week 4

Thailand trip 2. This next trip was much different than the first. IL and I flew to Phuket Sunday night then to Koh Samui Monday morning. Lessons learned from Koh Samui: don't trust people when they say that all the ferries are booked, go to ferry terminal and ask to get on the next ferry. Also, when exploring Koh Samui on motorbike and hitting a one-way, give yourself extra time (be more observant) to get back to catch ferry. It was close, thankfully we made it in time to get onto the ferry we were told was sold out to begin with. We managed to get to Koh Tao Monday afternoon as planned.

We spent the next 3 days (with KT) taking a PADI Open Water diving course. Lee, our British instructor was very good to us, especially having to deal with IL and KT ;) Diving was AMAZING! It's a whole new world (cue Aladdin music here) under the sea (err..cue Little Mermaid music here). KT is a mermaid. She managed to feel better in the water where on land she would feel sick. She clearly belongs in the sea. IL was a skills rockstar and able to keep his eyes open under water with the mask OFF. I was shocked! And myself, I slowed down the group by taking forever to descend - always having to equalize the pressure in my ears, AND I warmed up the sea with my constant peeeee-ing.

On our way back to Singapore, we had a stop in Phuket again. IL and I headed to the beach to watch the planes land. Being in the water with a plane coming down at you is awesome and terrifying!

Plane landing in Phuket

And that was February! Now welcome March. We're thru half the semester already and time is flying. So far, on deck for March is a gazillion projects, exams, assignments AND a trip to Bali at the end of the month. I've also added a 'Asia pictures' link to the side of this blog. A big salt-water wave killed my camera - so these might be the only pictures for a while until I replace it.
