Double WhAMY

I've been re-reading another Tim Keller book and  one of the sections talks about the character of friendship. There are 3 qualities to friendship: constancy, transparency, and common praise.

Constancy: Friends love at all times and especially during adversity (Prov 17:17).
Transparency: Real friends encourage and affectionately affirm one another (Prov 27:9). Friends cut you in order to heal you. Friends become wiser together through a healthy clash of viewpoints. As iron sharpens iron, so friend sharpens friend (Prov 27:17).
Common passion: Friendships are discovered more than they are created at will. They arise between people who discover that they have common interests in and longings for the same things.

Keller then adds a new layer to friendship: Christian friendship. Christians all experience the common grace of God in the gospel of Jesus, with our identity being changed at the root so that God's calling and love are more foundational to who we are than any other thing.

So what happens when you meet someone who has these friend qualities AND they're a fellow believer? You get a double-whammy! I really like when he says that friends are discovered more than they are created. I'm thankful for friendships that have been discovered and are developing!

I'm thankful for Amy - she's a double-whammy! Had such an epic Saturday with her! Friday night, we had a great and fun ski. Saturday morning, we started our first quilting project with Joyce - learning the art of cutting, the mathematics of quilting (and how to optimize your fabric!), pinning, pressing, sewing, and unveiling and seeing perfect corners (or nearly perfect corners!). It was fun and I hope this helps in my quest to become better at paying attention to detail! Then - off we went to Mt Mac to do the World Cup loop - a black trail. It was amazing. Tough ski because it was so cold without much glide, but great hills and of course beautiful sights!

Happy skiing friends!

I love the Yukon - the view never gets old!
I was going to post a picture of our quilting project so far - but I'll wait till it's done... then they can be unveiled at a dinner party!
