Yelling at the Lexus
Perhaps we're in that stage of cultural adjustment where our new surroundings become annoying. I'm still amazed at how I manage to bike or ride our moto around the city and still be alive. The traffic pattern is quite different than what I'm used to and although it seems chaotic, it seems to work. Sometimes.
The other day, I was riding our trusty Honda Super Cub across town to buy a new book to read. I buy the book, I'm heading home, and cruising and weaving through traffic with a swarm of motos. And then it happened. The typical big white SUV, the Lexus. Lexus happens to be at the top of the vehicle-predator-prey-food-chain, therefore, they exude power and little consideration for the little fish on motos.
The Lexus was backing onto the street from a parking area. It backed out in front of me. Stopped on the road. Decided they needed to check their phone or finish another round of Candy Crush. Do I pass it? Will it cut me off if I try to go around it? Do I wait for it? Instead I yelled at it. "GOOOO, JUST GO!"
Lexus didn't hear me, but I'm sure other moto drivers did. It was a low point. I've learned how culturally inappropriate it is to show any negative emotions in public. I blew it. When I got home and told my husband I yelled at Lexus, we agreed I should avoid being out in traffic for the rest of the day.
