Korea - In Transit

Finally, another update for Kathleen on a wing. I'm currently on a wing once again - flying from Toronto to Singapore. I still cant believe that KT and I are jetting across the globe to the hot humid country of SG. This post will have 3 main thoughts - leaving Whse, Christmas vacation, and moving forward to Asia.

Leaving Whitehorse

I love North of 60. If I ever got a tattoo, I'd definitely get the North of 60 compass plastered on my body. (Dont worry, no intention of getting one). I teared up when I landed in Toronto. I miss the community, work, coworkers, the mountains. Good relationships were formed with coworkers and I'm looking forward to working with them again in the future, God willing.

Christmas vacation

Where to begin! Saw a bunch of C4C friends at the Stevenson wedding - great time. Then home to a housefull. 14 people: 10 adults, 2 toddlers, and 2 babies. It was a good time - minus the sickness that was spread around. We had parties for 4 consecutive days. Mom's 50th party, Jarvis reunion day, Christmas, mom's side of family Christmas. Then once everyone left, IL came for a few days and then we went back to TO for a few days. Highlight of this vacation:

- the vacation itself. I havent had more than 4 days off in a row for over a year
- Hanging out with Cliff and Oscar - trying to induct some MJ into them
- Getting in a few skates on the rink
- Spending time with Erin
- Getting to have lunch with highschool friends and running into many other old friends - catching up
- gluten free brownies and muffins that mom and IL-mom made
- getting the doc to take out my stitches (very professional!)
- forcefully being humbled - I realized my fire-making skills have weakened (that or the wood was bad)
- Thinking about what ministry in SG will look like - getting excited about what God will do with me

Asia-bound

Hard to believe it's finally here. From summer of '09 in Malawi where the idea of going on exchange was sparked because Kristina told me about all the yummy eats until now - on the plane! It's been a full year of going thru the motions of applying and preparing for this exchange... and here I am on the plane and I still feel ill-prepared. I havent even got a single Sing-dollar in my pocket! I forgot to get money out at the airport. Who knows what else I forgot.

What I'm looking forward to:

- meeting my classmates, getting back into the school groove, Arctic Engineering course
- finally getting to travel and have adventures with KT (ready of not, here we come Asia!)
- church in SG
- running (and attempting to run in the humid heat)
- surfing and riding a motorcycle
- the food.

What I'm scared about:

- the heat
- taking algebra with the Asian mathies
- that I'll break one of the SG laws
